Sound & Lighting normally hires at the beginning of each school year, and additionally as needs arise. If you would like to work for SLS, watch for the hiring advertisements at the beginning of the next school year.

Employees are categorized into three levels: Senior Technicians, Technicians, and Junior Technicians. Each level means an increase in pay and an increase in responsibilities.

Current Senior Technicians:

Senior technicians are employees who know the most about the equipment and how to set up and run it. They should be able to operate a smaller show without assistance from the Operations Coordinator or the management, including coordinating other employees to do their jobs. They should know, in detail, the operation of the main inventory or equipment, and should be familiar with the operation of less often used equipment.

Current Technicians:

Technicians are employees who are familiar with the basic operation of equipment and how to set it up. In many cases, they assist Senior Technicians during a show. It is not required that they have the intimate knowledge of the equipment that a Senior Technician does. It is important, however, that they know the limitations of the equipment, including power ratings and power limits, so as not to overload any equipment.

Current Junior Technicians:

Junior Technicians are, in general, newly hired employees that do not yet have the basic understanding of the equipment as Technicians do. We encourage these employees to learn as much as possible through training operations, so as to become a Technician as soon as possible, an action that increases their worth to us and helps them to become a better employee.
